Bathroom Window Treatments

"Bathroom window treatments ideas to complete your bathroom design and decor"

Window treatments in the bathroom should reflect your decorating style and complete the room, just as any other space in your home.

No longer regarded as a utilitarian space to be kept behind closed doors, the bath has become a refuge for quiet, relaxation and stress relief.

There are so many great choices in bathroom window treatments now, any space, whether it is a small powder room, guest bath or master bath, can be completed with window treatments that complement the design and decor of the space.

Bathroom Window Treatments The fabrics, styles, designs and coordinates go far beyond the valance and mini-blind of the past, so let your creative juices flow and have some fun!

Two important considerations when deciding on window treatments for your bath are privacy and moisture level.

If your project is a guest bath that does not see regular use and is in a setting where there are no neighbors close by, you might opt for a full length sheer curtain that filters the light but allows the sun to shed a soft glow in the room. Bathrooms that see less traffic offer options that might not otherwise be practical.

Consider how often the shower/tub will be used when deciding on your window treatments. Is there an operable window in the space? If you want to be able to use the window, make sure your treatment allows for it to be opened and closed easily.

Bathroom window treatments Humidity can affect certain fabrics and surfaces, so consider faux wood blinds and synthetic or weather-resistant fabric in your bathroom.

Light filtering blinds, fabric shades and lined panels are options for those who need to block out neighbors, streets and other obtrusive situations.

Consider a blind that opens from the top down to allow light to enter the bath without sacrificing privacy.

Some window placements will allow for a treatment to be placed halfway up the window, such as a wood shutter. Privacy is granted when needed, but the overall look of the window is open and spacious. This also works well with an arched or transom window.

Bathroom Window Design Ideas Consider layering the bathroom window treatment to provide both function and beauty. For example, a wood blind with side panels and/or extended length valance in a sheer or lace fabric would work well in a bathroom with an overall decor such as country, shabby chic or even traditional style.

A stained glass window or insert is beautiful, elegant, light filtering and offers privacy if needed, as shown in the photo to the left.

The design and placement will vary depending on the overall decor of the bathroom.

There are options for window decor that provide privacy, beauty and do not require any type of traditional window treatment.

If you are in the planning stages for your bathroom design or remodel, an alternative to literal window treatments is the use of glass block, or, as shown in the photo below, placement of the windows at a height that automatically provides privacy.
