"It takes some creativity, not money, to create inexpensive wall decor"
Cheap wall decor ideas and tips.
Inexpensive wall decorating is possible, and actually very do-able if you have a little bit of imagination and are willing to put some effort into the project.
When the decorating budget just isn’t there but the wall decor must prevail...no worries! Here are some cheap ideas for you. Cheap can have negative connotations sometimes, so we’ll use the term ‘budget friendly’...sounds better, doesn’t it?
So, here are the budget friendly wall decor ideas for you:
Paint it Look at the walls in your room or space and determine if there is a focal point wall...one that has a unique shape or height, is the largest wall, has a great piece of furniture against it, etc.
Then, paint that focal point wall a) a contrasting color or, b) a deeper shade of the same color in the room.
Perhaps a simple faux finish would complete the look...sublte or bold, it can create a statement in your space. Read more about faux finishes.
You have just created interest and drama by simply using paint.
Use a combination of wall decor and accessories to create an interesting and finished look. Note the photo above.
The accessories on top of the china cabinet replace any hanging wall decor, yet complete the look quite nicely. It’s not always necessary to hang something on the wall.
Mirrors are always an option for cheap wall decor. Most rooms or spaces will look great with a mirror, or collection of mirrors.
And, you can find very inexpensive mirrors at discount stores, flea markets, garage sales and consignment shops.
Search for one large mirror, a set of two, or a collection of different sizes and shapes of mirrors. If you opt for the collection, the frames should have something in common...all wood, all painted the same color, etc.
Frame collections that you already own. What do you collect or enjoy? It might be postcards from past vacations, your children’s artwork, favorite recipes, songs/hymns, movie posters, or even wrapping paper that you’ve saved.
Find inexpensive frames at a discount or dollar store, spray paint them if needed, then frame your collection and hang...cheap wall decor for sure!
Fabric stretched over canvas can create a striking collection as wall decor. You can create your wall art as large or as small as desired.
Go to a fabric store and find two coordinating fabrics that match your decorating style and color palette. You can find canvas in a variety of sizes at a craft store.
Create a trio of wall hangings, using one of the fabrics as the center and the other fabric for each side. Make the center rectangle (or square) larger than the two side shapes.
Staple the fabric to the canvas, being sure to pull the fabric very tight.
Your inexpensive wall decor looks classy, unique and definitely not cheap!
Posters are a great source of budget decorating. There are a number of great online sources for posters, such as AllPosters.com. Look for their clearance section and see what you can find. I found some posters for less than a dollar online, bought inexpensive frames at a craft store, and hung a collection of four posters for less than $30 total.
