Color Trends 2011

"Which color trends 2011 will you incorporate
into your home's decor?"

If you want to be ‘in the know’ when it comes to color trends in home decorating and design, read on to find out what two experts in the field have to say.

First, from the folks at Benjamin Moore paint, comes COLOR PULSE 2011.

They’ve created four themes, including The Farm, Order, Escape and Tribe.

Color Trends 2011 The Farm encompasses earthy, natural colors and textures, including earthy brown, milky white, pale yellow, pumpkin, tomato and shades of green.

Simple fabrics emerge with tie-dyes, tea stains and hand stenciled patterns.

Order returns to primary colors coupled with blacks, grays and whites. Bright neons are not found in this palette.

Clean lines and geometric shapes are the order of the day.

Escape is designed for the softer, feminine colors and soft, drapy fabrics, with shimmery pastels accenting a grounded main color. Expect to see rosy pinks with carbon, lavender with brown, and pale green with camel.

Trends in color for 2011

Tribe brings in the bold tones of fiery orange, red berry and cinnamon, and pairs them with bronze, charcoal and brown.

Expect to see beaded elements and community-themed stencils.

Our next color visionary is the Paint Quality Institute, which takes a philosophical approach to color trends in 2011.

Budget conscious consumers will look for simple and relatively inexpensive ways to update their home and create a sense of newness without spending a lot of money in the process. You can change the appearance, the perception of size and even the perception of temperature, through the simple use of paint color.

Color and decorating for 2011 For those who want to get back to basics and enjoy a sense of neutrality and calm, warm whites, tawny tans, barely-there coral and green will find use in kitchens, bedrooms and baths.

Blue will gain popularity for both wall and ceiling colors. These well worn hues are represented by blues across the spectrum, from denim dark to blue-grey. Known for it’s sense of calming, blue’s hues can help create a retreat from life’s stresses. Add a bit of yellow or yellow-green to add some pizzazz to family spaces.

Higher paint sheens and metallic finishes are also on the 2011 list for color and design trends. Hallways, dining rooms, master bedrooms/baths are spaces that can benefit from some additional sophistication and glitz. Look for gold to be a popular choice in a high sheen paint finish.
