Ideas for Decorating Kids Room

"Help your kids create a room they will love"

Easy, simple and budget friendly ideas for decorating kids room, no matter the age!

Decorating for kids doesn't have to be difficult as long as you follow some simple guidelines.

When it comes to decorating a kids room there are no hard and fast rules for success, but there are some basic guidelines that will help make the project of decorating for kids a little easier (and less stressful!)

Decorating Kids Room First, remember that this is a kids room you are decorating and what they want to see on a daily basis is not necessarily what you would want to see.

You could spend a chunk of change and put some effort into creating a lovely space for your child, but if it's not something they buy into and are pleased with, you may have not been too successful for all of your efforts.

If your child is in grade school, they most likely have an opinion about their room.

Factor in the age, of course, but give them some opportunity to voice an opinion. Decorating kids rooms is about the kids, after all.

Decorating Kids Rooms Your theme could be as simple as selecting a couple of colors, or it could revolve around a sport, an activity, a super hero, a favorite toy or past time.

Second, decide how creative and 'exotic' you will be when decorating the kids room.

For example, if your child loves butterflies and wants a 'butterfly theme' room, you might paint the walls a soft yellow, stencil butterflies on all of the walls, find a bedspread and matching butterfly window treatments and throw rugs.

You hang butterfly mobiles, build a headboard in the shape of butterly wings, an so on. You could go to the extreme with the butterfly theme (probably a corny example but you get the idea!) or...

However, you might decorate kids room in a subtle butterfly theme. The walls are still painted a soft yellow. Butterflies are soft and delicate and beautiful, so you find a beautiful lace window treatment. The furniture is painted in delicate shades of pink, purple and rose.

You find some great butterfly pictures to hang on the walls, as well as various small butterfly reproduction pieces to place on the dresser.

You stay with the idea of a butterfly shaped headboard, and find a couple of pillows with butterflies and flowers to put on the bed.

You've been successful at decorating a kids room with the theme they love (right now, anyway!), but it will be pretty simple to change in the future.

Decorating for Kids Third, remember that you can do a lot with paint when decorating kids rooms, and it is budget friendly! Paint is also relatively simple to change, so you are not making a lifetime commitment to the chosen decor.

If your child has some input into the colors and/or theme, they may be more receptive to keeping their room picked up and relatively clean. Help them out by making sure there is enough shelving and storage available that is easy for them to use, with boxes, bins, bags etc. plentiful in the room.

Decorating kids rooms doesn't have to be complicated. Keep it simple, allow your child to have some input and you'll both be pleased with the results.
