"Searching for the right look at a great price? Here are some discount window treatment ideas for you"

Discount window treatments don't have to look cheap. In fact, here are some budget friendly ideas for window treatments that will create a custom look for a limited price!

If you're anything like me, I have the knack of always selecting the most expensive item, no matter that project I'm working on. I like to think it means I have really, really good taste! Be that as it may, my budget is usually much smaller than my taste.

Finishing the windows in your home is no different. There are options for discount window treatments plus ideas on how to put them together, that will create a more complete and custom look for the price.

If you're not sure where to begin with the decision on what to do with your windows, read Window Treatment Ideas first, then come back to this page.

Finding window treatments at a discounted price can be approached two ways. You can go to discount stores such as Target and Kohls and search for the window treatments you desire. Discount window treatments The other option, which will give you many more options and choices, is to shop online at these same stores (.com), or let your 'fingers do the walking' and check out some great online options for discount window treatments....

What do you look for?

Here are some options that span many decorating styles.

1. Faux wood blinds - very budget friendly, not difficult to hang, and always look more expensive than they are. Select the color that best matches your trim and you really can't go wrong.

2. If you need a window treatment a.s.a.p. and the handyman isn't available, try using a tension rod and hanging the window treatments on the inside of the window.

Most window configurations will work fine, as you don't need a lot of space, just a couple of inches. This works best with window that are 60" or less in width.

If you choose this option just remember that the window treatments must not be overly heavy. Lace, lightweight cotton, a weave, etc. There are many choices.

And it doesn't have to be a valance, either. You can hang panels on the inside of the window from a tension rod.

If your window depth is sufficient, you could hang two rods and put a valance over the panels. Or, drape a lightweight valance right over the top of the panels and use just one tension rod.

3. The window treatments you select will appear more expensive and custom if you make sure that you have enough width.

For example, if the window is 36" wide and you are going to hang a valance, have three times the width of the window, or 108", so the window treatment doesn't look too 'puny'. That look tends to be interpreted as 'cheap'.

4. If you decide to purchase full length fabric panels make sure the length is appropriate for the space. If an 84" panel hung evenly with the top of the window hangs four inches above the floor, it's not such a good deal.

But, if these panels are everything you've always wanted and more at the best price ever, consider adding a piece of lace or other sheer type of fabric to the top of the panels for an interesting and unique look.

Or, if this fits your decor style, hang the rods about 1/4 of the way down from the top of the window. It lets in some additional light at the top of the window and maintains your privacy.

4. Search for special sales and discontinued lines of more expensive window treatments. It might take a little longer and require more effort, but the result will be worth it.
