Fabric window treatments can be used in a wide variety of ways. First, you need to determine the type of window treatment that will work best in your space. Find some helpful tips and answers by reading Window Treatment Ideas then come back to this page!
When it comes to selecting the fabric for your window treatments, consider:
- the decor style of the space. Not sure what your style is? Read more about Interior Decorating Styles
- the color palette
- the windows themselves
Is there trim around the entire window? Crown molding above? Painted trim or stained? Do you want to highlight the trim?
Then you might decide to place the treatment inside the window if it is deeply inset, or under the crown molding/trim that runs across the top of the window.
Consider the walls colors, textures and patterns that already exist in the room or are part of your overall decorating plan.
For example, if the walls are painted a vibrant color, you might opt for a more neutral color in the window treatments. The fabric could have an interesting texture, of course, but you don't want to compete with other colors and elements in the room.
If the windows are small and narrow, consider placing the window treatments on either side of the window to make them appear larger.
Make sure to measure carefully from the floor to the top of the window, or wherever the rod will be placed, to ensure the panels reach the floor.
Placing the rod above the top of the windows will create more height when the treatments are hung and give the illusion of more wall height as well.
