Our French Country kitchen may have a striking yet welcoming shade of medium gold on the walls, black appliances, colorful deep red counter tops, tile or stone floors, simple cabinetry in hickory or maple, and an antique (or reproduction) rectangular dining set, large enough to seat ten or twelve people if the area can accommodate a table of that size.

The chandelier that hangs over the table is a rustic yet elegant iron, and there is a beautiful colorful area rug under the dining set to highlight the dining area.

Reproduction French Country prints are on the walls depicting the beautiful southern French countryside.

There is an abundance of sunshine streaming in through the windows that have their wood shutters wide open.

Copper pots and pans as well as spices are usually kept within easy reach of the cook, and in our kitchen are found on open shelves for both practicality and decor.

Colorful earthen ware bowls, platters and the like serve as decorative elements and serving pieces. These rustic, earthy materials offer age-old elegance and practicality in a French country kitchen.

There may be natural woven baskets hanging, rush seats on the dining chairs, greenery tastefully present in the room, and colorfully mismatched dinnerware (possibly some beautiful pieces of majolica) in selected colors from the overall palette.
