Log Home Designs

"What type of log home design suits your lifestyle?"

log home exterior Log home designs are many, varied and mostly custom plans. There are many fine small log home and cabins plans available to build as shown.

An alternative that many people determine works best for them is to use the services of a log home company, builder or architect and design their own home.

Most log home companies offer plans that can be customized to fit the individual homeowner's taste and lifestyle.

What type of log home plans and designs interest you? If you are considering a log home, it pays to do your homework and research finding the style, price point, log species, construction type, financing and builder for your dream home.

Log home designs Some points to consider for log home designs are:

Do you want one story or more than one floor?

Many log homes have a loft, and in most log home designs the loft overlooks the Great Room for example. It is very pretty, but make sure you have a function in mind for the loft.

How many bedrooms and bathrooms are you looking for?

Do you want an open Great Room with soaring ceilings and log beams or do you prefer separate rooms for the living, dining and kitchen.

Keep in mind if your interior walls are log, the actual room size is decreased by the size of the log itself. So plan accordingly with room sizes.

You don't want to end up with a bedroom that only has eight or nine feet of usable width because a foot of the width is consumed by the interior log material.

log home designs These are just a few of the considerations when looking at designs for log homes.

There are many decisions to be made and it is helpful to gain all the knowledge you possibly can before making final plans for your log home. The cost is too great to make a huge mistake that you'll have to live with for a long, long time!

Here is a source of information that you may want to consider if you are giving thought to building a log home: log home book The Ultimate Guide to Log Homes

Remember to gather as much information as you can regarding log homes, designs, builders, etc. It's not as much fun as actually building the home and living in it, but it's good planning!
