A sheer window treatment will provide an element of privacy and some light filtering benefits. There are many beautiful sheer fabrics and laces that can suit just about any home decorating style.
Adding a decorative type rod with unique finials can complete the window treatment in a very affordable way!
You can use a sheer treatment:
- across the entire window
- on each side of the window
- under a valance to add interest and softness to the window
- to cover just a portion of a window, such as a window with a transom or arch
I used a
white-on-white striped sheer
on a decorative rod in our dining room, and then placed a silk green vine on the rod, winding it across the window in a random way.
It was a simple, sheer, understated yet graceful look for the dining area. And, it was definitely an affordable window treatment!
Here is another idea that worked well for me. Although the picture to the right is a little dark (we no longer live in this home so I am limited in what I can show you) I think you'll get the idea. This bedroom window was quite large and boxy. I hung a
sheer valance
and it was very soft and pretty, but a little boring.
So, I found a semi-sheer fabric that was very close in color and pattern to the comforter. Then, I hung the semi-sheer curtains on a tension rod, inside the window, underneath the valance. We also had a wood blind for privacy.
It added just the right amount of interest and color while maintaining a soft overall appearance.
