Small Bathroom Designs
"A small bathroom can be large on style with these simple and easy ideas"
Small bathroom designs can be a bit of a challenge, but with some simple and helpful bathroom design ideas you can create a space that is livable and enjoyable. Size, of course, is at a premium in a small bath. Keep in mind that you'll need at least a space 36 x 40 sq. ft. for a full bath. The smallest size standard bathtub (if you need one ...how about a shower unit?) needs a five foot length. Before you being your small bathroom design project, determine your overall spending budget. Then, take some time to price out the items you are going to be purchasing. Do your homework in advance to avoid unwelcome surprises down the road.
Here are some small bathroom design considerations:- Use larger tiles and lay them on a diagonal, to increase the feeling of space in the area.
Consider using the same product at least partway up the walls. The continuation of tile can add to the spacious feeling in the room.
- Lighter colors overall on the walls, floor, ceiling and fixtures will keep the space looking as large as possible.
Shades that make the room appear larger are cool colors...blue, green, gray and white. If spaciousness is not an issue for you, have fun and choose a color palette that you love! - If this is a full bath, is a bathtub necessary? If a shower will work for your needs, consider a glass shower enclosure to keep the open feeling in the space.
How about a corner shower? It may provide function to an otherwise dead area of the room. - A pocket door may be just the thing to eliminate the protrusion of a standard door into the room. I have lived in homes that had pocket doors in the bath and they are real space savers!
- Many small bathroom designs include a pedestal sink. They are simple, graceful and don't take up a lot of visual space.
Don't forget about your storage needs, though. Evaluate the pros and cons of pedestal sink vs. a standard vanity cabinet and decide what is best in your situation. - Plenty of light in your small bathroom will help to open up the space. The most economical method is to use light fixtures.
If your budget allows, consider a skylight or adding a window to the area. - Mirrors are always a great way to give the illusion of more space, and in planning for small bathroom designs this is no exception.
Depending on the style of decor you are using, have fun with the mirror and make it a focal point in the small bath. Select a mirror that is dramatic and makes a statement in the room!
Have fun with your bathroom remodel or decorating project, take the time to select the best products within your budget (use this page as a resource for items you need...there are some great, budget friendly products!) and you will create a small bath that you'll love!
